THE ANNIVERSARY RECORDINGS

» Distance and time: Just around the block
» CDs in the car: All scratched - No sound.
» Mission: Re-recording Levitate for an anniversary CD-single.
» Location: Norrköping | Sweden

When you have nothing better to do, grab your gear and pack your butt to the recording studio and make an impact in music history. This is for all you gear sluts out there who like to get down and drrty about the sinister details of studio recording.

Gus says: Since the sound of the album where everything we ever wanted in an album I decided to go for exactly the same lineup of drums that I did back then. Our helping hand and owner of the studio, Dan, let me use his Sonor bassdrum once again, and as always it sounded amazing. I used both toms from my Pearl-kit and this time I chose coated heads which creates a warmer, acustic sound that goes great with songs like "Feels Like home.

Q says: Since we decided to re-record the song Levitate, being a steady showstopper at our gigs, we headed into the studio confident we were going to give you something special. For "b-side", Feels like home has proved to be popular at our gigs so we decided to give that song a shot... And now to the important stuff!! This time around I decided to use my Gibson Les Paul custom -93, a creame white beauty that's been my go-to-guitar the last year or so.. amplification-wise, I used a Mesa Boogie dual RECTUMFRIER boosted with a CAE overdrive/boost and MAN did that get the job done.. setting up, soundcheck and tracking the two songs didn't take moore than 5 hours. Obviously I abused my trusty MXR phase 90 and my newest toy, the EVH flanger to fuck things up a bit. Anyway, we had a blast making this single, hope it reflects the music. Enjoy!!

Mike says: This time I decided to try something completely different. Frankly I got sick and tired of just being the lead singer in the band and technically use whatever people put in front of me, so I decided to go on an internet shopping spree. A week later I found myself and a huge container of black coffee in our rehearsing room with a brand new laptop, a chinese SE Electronics 2200 A microphone (awarded microphone of the year in 2006), a Focusrite Voicemaster Pro preamp and my favorite pair of Sennheisser headphones. I swear putting down vocals have never been so completely stress-free and fun. Now I am hopelessly conservative when it comes to vintage gear and all that nitty gritty but the result and the ease of the recording completely blew me away. This new way of taking control of the recording process made it possible to concentrate 100% on delivering the goods.

Klaus says: Nothing comes between me and my AMPEG. FTW!
