ANTENNA
The number of rock n' roll bands coming out of Sweden in the new millennium is overwhelming. To name a few; Revolution Riot, The Poodles, Vains Of Jenna, CrashDïet, Babylon Bombs; and even late eighties rockers such as Zan Clan and Nasty Idols have recently been re-formed.
Sweden must be considered the leading country at the moment when it comes to the eighties glam and sleaze genre. Originators of this revival, Backyard Babies and Hardcore Superstar, still enjoy reasonably success, yet bands like Loud N' Nasty and Bai Bang still miss their breakthrough, even though they've been around for quite a while.
Violent Divine can now be added to the list of excellent new rock bands out of Sweden. The style is typical sleazy rock n' roll with a punk twist, comparisons can be made to Buckcherry and Backyard Babies. The disc has a raw production and doesn't include a real 'hit'. This seems to be the only problem with these new bands, there's not one slick produced 'hit' song on their records. It doesn't bother me, but I think part of the reason why the style is still very much underground is that no radio friendly hit potential tracks are included on the units' albums, even though Babylon Bombs came close with "Hometown Hero".
From what I've heard, though, the style gets plenty of airplay in their native country. If you like all these bands mentioned above, then it's highly recommended that you add Violent Divine's debut to your collection.
